Quad's 303 power amplifier was produced from 1968
and lasted all the way through until the early 1980s.
These were a relatively compact stereo power amplifier
with a 45 watt per channel power reserve, all built into
a very rugged, industrial looking metal case with large
finned heatsink at one end and connection panel at the
other.
These amplifiers are something of a legend and
nowadays have a cult following. One of their original
selling points was that electronically they were
virtually indestructible and would remain
unconditionally stable, no matter what you tried to do
to them; their ruggedness and
heavy build are the main reason that so many remain
today.
Considering that transistor technology was still in its
infancy back then and many aspects of solid state
component design still had major limitations, Quad's
engineers did a superb job of making such a
well-engineered product which is still widely respected
over 40 years on.
