24th January 2011:
Website redesigned.
New look, new
logo, new colours.
The old green
theme is gone. I've been meaning to do this for a long time
now, I was never really happy with the way things looked
before.
About the
new design
All graphics
and text on this website unless otherwise stated have been
created by me.
Earlier
photographs were taken with a Samsung Digimax V4, later ones
with a Canon EOS 50D with various lenses (Tamron SP, Zuiko,
Pentacon etc). Most graphics work was done in an ancient
version of Paint Shop Pro, a few extra graphics rendered in
Blender. HTML stuff was
done in Front Page 2003. The fading images header on
the main page uses jQuery.
This was designed on a large monitor (1920x1080 px resolution), it
does look better at higher resolutions (1200x800 px
upwards).
Why the
monochrome theme?
I always
wanted the main feature of the website to be the
photography; the more images I added, the more I felt they
clashed with the rest of the website, a bit of a clash of
styles.
In the past 3
years I've thought a lot about a new design - shorter
paragraphs, more use of whitespace, the elegant simplicity
of a printed page in a novel.
I'm no web
designer, have no aspirations to become one - BUT, I know
what direction I wanted to take the website in.
I got
some ideas from sheet music, if you think about that then you can
probably see where the design is coming from.
Finally..
The new
design isn't set in stone yet, some things will most
likely change.
If you're
really curious, you can see a screenshot
here of how
Briarsfield Hi-Fi looked before..

28th August 2010:
Changed the formatting to fixed column widths, added some
header photos. Also a few new pages.
04th November 2009:
Minor update once again. Various tweaks, corrections etc.
09th June 2009:
Minor update. Also some minor tweaks overall.
15th February 2009:
Added some new sections with lots of new photos and
corrected many small typos and errors in the page
formatting. Some page links are standard HTML now, I wanted
to keep the buttons but HTML is easier to edit...I may change
this in the future.
28th May 2008:
Slight redesign with new software, fixed some errors, and
typos, added some new sections.
04th May 2008:
Website launched. Still a huge amount to add, most
pages at this point are under construction.
