The year is 1963. Transistor technology is still in its infancy...

These started life in the mid 1960's as a pair of valve amplifiers housed inside a wooden case, complete with a full sized reel to reel tape recorder transport. These came to me in a box with many other parts, all intended to be rebuilt and made into a full integrated valve amplifier.

This turned into easily one of the most complex projects I've ever undertaken, not so much the basic design part but actually getting everything put together and making it all work well together. The task of designing and planning everything and then needing to alter parts of the design on the fly was huge, a real lesson in actually working out how to build a product and do it well.

Because of the huge size of the project, I've divided it into 5 sections, click on one to view the page:

Part 1: The design

Part 2: Rebuilding the amplifiers

Part 3: Designing the extra circuits

Part 4: Putting everything together

Part 5: Reflection
